It turns out the screen has no backlight. We discovered the laptop had water damage. The fuse was blown and the backlight pins on the lvds connector had a voltage spike which casued damage to pads on the board, a hole deep enough to short the circuit internally. We were able to verify this using a Flir Thermal Camera. After going over all the component that could short the circuit, we were unsuccessful in making the board work due to internal board damage.
