Dozens of migrants deported from the United States, both adults and children, arrived in their home countries of Honduras and Guatemala on Friday. They arrived one week before US President Barack Obama meets Central American leaders about an escalating crisis that has seen a surge of unaccompanied minors migrating from their countries to the United States. Nearly 57,000 unaccompanied migrant children arrived in the United States between October and mid-June alone. They mostly come from Honduras, Guatemala and El Salvador, according to the US Customs and Border Protection. A chartered flight carrying 59 women and children arrived on Friday in San Pedro Sula, Honduras, from New Mexico, the second group of migrants from the Central American country to be deported from the United States this week. Sister Valdette Willeman welcomed the 33 children and 26 women at San Pedro Sula airport's Center for Returned Migrants. Each child received a small backpack with crayons, and their mothers about 24 US dollars for travel expenses. Meanwhile, Guatemalan migrants landed at La Aurora International Airport in Guatemala City and met authorities before going home. Guatemala Attorney General Vladimir Osman Aguilar Guerra told reporters the deported families' human rights were protected while in the US. Obama is scheduled to meet the Presidents of Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador at the White House on July 25 to discuss the flood of unaccompanied minors through the US border. The US has been urging their governments to take steps to stem the exodus of children and warning that the US will take steps to send them back promptly.
