Jack Bird was executed for killing Bertha Kludt and her teenage daughter Beverly in the Tacoma home in 1947. Professing to killing 44 people, Bird was able to win stays to his execution for more than a year as investigators looked into his claims. At his sentencing, he told a crowded courtroom “All you guys who had anything to do with this case are going to die before I do.”
